Horticulture Collaborative Research Support Program

Welcome to the home page of the Horticulture Collaborative Research Support Program (Hort CRSP).  The US agency for International Development has provided funds to support research into issues affecting horticultural production and marketing in the developing world, following the recommendations of the Global Horticulture Assessment.  This research will require collaboration between the Land Grant or other public Universities in the US and partner institutions in developing countries. Research will address the key issues identified by USAID as constraining the profitabilty of horticulture in the developing world:

  • Postharvest losses and an inadequate marketing chain
  • Limited germplasm resources
  • Food safety
  • The impact of biotic and abiotic stresses, and
  • Financing
Funded projects will address one or more of the three themes of the Hort CRSP:
  • Gender equity in access to production inputs, finance, and markets,
  • Information accessibility, and
  • Application of disruptive technologies
